THE ASK

Research competitive swimwear and explore the needs and requirements of the intended audience and its associated use cases, and design prints within defined parameters.  Then develop 4 distinct prints in six clear, repetitious color ways in a single scale that can be used in a variety of sizes in both womens' and mens' competitive swimwear. Identify four unique motifs to be used in your prints, using a core pallette of six colors, and depict each surface design in CLO-3D.

Concept

I began by researching current trends and colors in the competitive swimwear fashion segment. I found light weight fabrics being used and bold colorful prints. My idea was to incorporate organic shapes and natural pigments. While still showing off vibrant patterns that are eye catching, even underwater. I also adjusted the properties of the polyester fabric I choose to reflect the look of swimwear material.

Adobe

Design

I specified my want for organic shapes by limiting myself to astrological formations including the sun, moon, water, and earth. I played around with saturation, configuration, and mirroring my motifs to see what I could create. My first two swatches I made followed a more structured lay out. My last two swatches have more of an abstract and free flowing feel.

CLO-3D

Render

I downloaded all of my swatches made in Adobe Illustrator and imported them to CLO-3D. I used CLO-Connect to find a swimsuit pattern that fit the needs of competitive swimwear. I loaded this swimsuit and then picked an avatar. As I rendered each print and colorway on the swim suit I took snapshots of each.
